On August 6, 2025, the final reporting session and the reception were held in Tokyo, Japan to present the achievements of the 17 participants from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) who completed their internship program in Japan, with attendance of Mr. TOTSUKA Nobuo, Managing Director of JICE. The guests, representing Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Japan Cooperation Center for the Middle East (JCCME), and the host companies and the institute also attended and listened intendedly to the presentation of the participants.

Approximately two months prior to the final reporting session, the internship program for UAE university students has started in JuneWith support from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), JICE implements various programs for the UAE in education and human resource development. As part of these efforts, the internship program launched in the fiscal year 2012 has been up and running with the cooperation of the universities in the UAE and interested companies and institutions of Japan. This year marked the 14th anniversary of the program.

This program aims to enrich higher education in the UAE by providing the students with internship opportunities at the Japanese companies as part of JICE’s commitment to support the nation's workforce nationalization policy. It is also intended to nurture UAE students who understand Japanese corporate culture and have practical knowledge and skills to meet the needs of the Japanese companies planning to expand their business outreach in the Middle East. Starting in 2023, we offer three location-wise program options to match the needs of both participating students and host companies: (1) Japan only, (2) UAE only, and (3) a hybrid format combining Japan and the UAE.

In 2025, with the cooperation of ten host companies and institutions (including four new participating organizations), 21 outstanding UAE students were selected from Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and Khalifa University of Science and Technology (KU).

On June 1, 2025, seventeen UAE students arrived in Japan to participate in the internship program. Starting from the following day, they attended a one-week basic training program including Japanese language classes and lectures on Japanese culture and business custom and manners.

“Fukushima, where the training institution is located, has many mountains, deep forests, and rivers. I was amazed by the difference in nature compared to the UAE. I also participated in an exchange program with the combined elementary and junior high school students, where we had the opportunity to discuss our differences. I definitely would like to visit Fukushima again” (Chemical Engineering Major)
