JICE Hosted “JDS Research Workshop” for JDS Fellows

Asia International Student Service

JICE hosted “JDS Research Workshop” for the JDS Fellows at its Head Office in Shinjuku, Tokyo on February 8th, 2019. The aim of the workshop was two-fold: one was to share their research outcomes and to improve research capabilities and the other was to foster mutual exchange beyond the country borders and to build a lasting network to help them work together to tackle with common challenges as a public servant.

This workshop, held for the first time, brought together 34 JDS Fellows studying in the field of public governance and international relations and was joined by two prominent scholars invited by JICE as commentators; Mr. Stephen R Nagy, Senior Associate Professor, Department of Politics and International Studies, International Christian University and Ms. Barbara Kratiuk, Research Fellow, Institute of International Relations, University of Warsaw.

Eleven students made a presentation each according to their research theme during four hours followed by active comments and discussions by the participants. Many of them were taking notes eagerly about the comments by the guest academics. The workshop looked like a big class where students from different countries and universities interacted and leaned from each other.

In the wrap up session, the workshop participants enjoyed conversation and exchange over snacks and soft drinks prepared by JICE.

Looking forward, JICE will be further committed to supporting academic activities of the JDS Fellows as well as enriching their life in Japan by providing networking opportunities such as this one.
